How to Clear Spotify Cache on Mac and Free Up Space

Quick answer: quit Spotify, then use Finder’s Go → Go to Folder to inspect ~/Library/Application Support/Spotify. Remove cache data only after making sure Spotify is closed. Your account and playlists remain online, but offline downloads may need to be downloaded again.

Why Spotify uses so much storage

Spotify stores artwork, audio segments, logs, and offline listening data locally so playback starts quickly. The size grows with offline playlists and long-term use. Spotify may recreate cache files after you reopen the app; that is expected.

Clear Spotify cache manually

  1. Quit Spotify with Spotify → Quit Spotify.
  2. In Finder, choose Go → Go to Folder.
  3. Enter ~/Library/Application Support/Spotify and press Return.
  4. Review items that are clearly cache or temporary data. Move only those items to Trash.
  5. Open Spotify again and sign in or redownload offline playlists if needed.

Folder names can vary by Spotify version. If you are unsure whether an item contains offline downloads, leave it in place and use Spotify’s own storage controls first.

Free up more Mac storage

Browser caches, old installers, developer artifacts, and duplicate files often dwarf a single app’s cache. Follow our complete Mac app-cache guide and old macOS installer guide for other safe wins.

Frequently asked questions

Will clearing Spotify cache delete my playlists?

No. Playlists, account details, and streaming history are tied to your Spotify account. Offline downloads may need to be restored.

Can I delete the entire Spotify folder?

Do not delete the entire folder unless you intend to reset Spotify. Remove only clearly identified cache data and keep a backup if you are uncertain.
