About TrimyMac
Why We Built TrimyMac
It started with the usual frustration: a spinning beach ball, a "Your startup disk is almost full" warning, and no clear idea where all the gigabytes went. If you use a Mac for any serious work — software development, video editing, even just everyday browsing — storage fills up quietly and steadily. App caches balloon. Xcode leaves behind simulator runtimes and derived data that nobody asked for. iOS device backups stack up. Duplicate photos and documents scatter across folders.
The existing tools weren't satisfying. CleanMyMac is polished, but it costs a significant subscription fee and ships with a long list of features most people never touch. Plenty of free alternatives are either outdated, confusing, or — worse — use scare tactics to push in-app purchases. We wanted something different: a focused, honest tool that does exactly what it says, costs almost nothing, and respects the person using it.
TrimyMac started as a side project and grew into something we genuinely use every week. The first public release, TrimyMac 1.0.11, shipped on 12 September 2026. The current download is 1.0.16 (15 October 2026).
What TrimyMac Does
The app covers the sources of junk that actually accumulate on a typical Mac:
- App caches — temporary files left behind by browsers, media apps, and productivity tools
- System junk — log files, crash reports, and temporary OS artifacts
- Developer tool bloat — Xcode derived data, simulator runtimes, old build caches
- iOS device backups — old iPhone and iPad backups stored in iTunes/Finder
- Orphaned app data — support files left behind by apps you have uninstalled
- Old downloads — files in Downloads that have not been modified in 90 days
- Browser caches — cache data from Safari, Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Arc
- Mail and Messages — Mail.app data and attachments
- Broken login items and launch agents — leftovers from uninstalled apps
- Trash contents — across all connected volumes
- Large and old files — surfaced with a built-in storage analyzer so you can make informed decisions
- Duplicate files — found using real SHA-256 content hashing, not just name matching, so you only see true duplicates
Beyond cleaning, TrimyMac includes a storage analyzer that gives you a clear breakdown of what's consuming your disk, a performance monitor that flags startup slowdowns, and a lightweight security audit that surfaces common configuration issues. Everything you remove goes through a Safe Area — a confirmation step that lists exactly what will be deleted before anything is permanently removed. There are no surprise deletions.
Our Philosophy
Three things matter most to us, and we're committed to getting them right even as the app grows.
Privacy first. The app does not include a usage-analytics SDK, and it does not upload your file list or scan results. It sends a license key and this Mac's hostname to Lemon Squeezy to activate a license and to re-check it about every 7 days, and it checks trimymac.com for updates. This website loads Google Analytics. Details are in the privacy policy.
Honest pricing. The free tier isn't crippled. It covers the cleanup categories and doesn't nag you with pop-ups or artificial scan limits. Pro Annual ($9.99/year) renews automatically at the then-current price unless you cancel before the renewal date. You can cancel anytime, and you keep Pro until the end of the paid period. Lifetime ($24.99) is a one-time purchase with no renewal. Those terms are stated in the Terms of Service.
No dark patterns. We don't exaggerate scan results to make them look scarier than they are. We don't show fake performance scores. We don't use countdown timers or "your Mac is at risk" messaging. If TrimyMac finds genuine junk, it shows you exactly what it found and lets you decide what to do with it.
Built for macOS
TrimyMac is a native SwiftUI app — built with Apple's own frameworks, not a web wrapper or cross-platform runtime. That means it feels like it belongs on your Mac, integrates with system accessibility features, and stays fast and responsive regardless of what else is running.
Every release is code-signed and notarized by Apple, so macOS Gatekeeper trusts it out of the box. We test each version against the latest macOS release and ship compatibility updates as soon as Apple introduces changes that affect how the system stores files or manages caches. You'll never be stuck running a version that's out of date with your OS.
We target macOS 14 Sonoma and later, which covers the vast majority of Macs still in active use. If you're running an older version and need help, just reach out.
