1. Getting Started

TrimyMac is a native macOS app. Installing takes under a minute.

1. Download TrimyMac free. The file is named TrimyMac-x.y.z.dmg so you always know the version.
2. Open the DMG and drag the TrimyMac icon onto the Applications folder shortcut.
3. Launch TrimyMac from your Applications folder. Because it is signed and notarized by Apple, it opens without security warnings.
4. Grant Full Disk Access when prompted (see below) so TrimyMac can find every category of junk.
5. Run your first scan from the Smart Clean tab and review the results.

Why Full Disk Access matters

Without Full Disk Access, protected folders like ~/Library/Caches, app containers, and system logs are invisible to TrimyMac. Grant it in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access, toggle TrimyMac on, and relaunch. Your files and scan results stay on your Mac. TrimyMac only connects to the internet to check your license with Lemon Squeezy — the license key, and on activation this Mac's hostname — and to check trimymac.com for updates. 2. Setting Up Your License Key

After purchasing TrimyMac Pro (Annual or Lifetime), you receive a license key by email from our payment provider, Lemon Squeezy. Here is how to activate it.

1. Find your key. Check the order confirmation email with the subject "Your TrimyMac Pro receipt." Your license key looks like XXXXXXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXXXXXXXXXX.
2. Open TrimyMac Settings. Click Settings in the left sidebar.
3. Open the activation dialog. In the License section, click Enter License Key / Restore Purchase.
4. Paste your key into the field and click Activate.
5. Done. A green Pro Activated confirmation appears and every Pro feature unlocks instantly.

Can't find your key?

You can retrieve it anytime from your Lemon Squeezy order portal at app.lemonsqueezy.com/my-orders — enter the email you used at checkout and they will send you a magic link to view your orders and license keys. Still stuck? Email [email protected] with your order number and we will resend it.

3. Managing Your Licenses

Moving TrimyMac to a new Mac

Your license can be activated on a limited number of Macs at once. The limit is set on the license, not in the app. To move it to a new machine when you are at the limit:

1. On the old Mac, open Settings → License and click Deactivate on this Mac. This frees one activation slot.
2. On the new Mac, install TrimyMac and activate with the same license key.

Checking your license status

Open Settings → License. When Pro is active you will see your plan (Annual or Lifetime), a masked view of your key, and options to copy it, deactivate this Mac, or open the management portal.

Managing your subscription (Annual)

For the Annual plan, you can update your payment method or cancel anytime from the Lemon Squeezy customer portal linked in your receipt email, or via Settings → Manage License in the app. Cancelling stops future renewals; you keep Pro until the end of the paid period.

4. Complete Feature Guide

🧹 Smart Clean

The core of TrimyMac. It scans 11 junk categories in one pass: app caches, system logs, crash reports, Trash, developer tools (npm, Homebrew, pip, Cargo, and Docker), orphaned apps, downloads older than 90 days, Xcode artifacts, iOS backups, browser caches, and Mail and Messages. Review each category by size, tick what you want to remove, and click Clean. Nothing is deleted permanently without your confirmation.

💾 Storage Analysis

See your entire drive as a size-sorted tree. Instantly find the largest files and folders — old downloads, forgotten video projects, hidden caches — that are quietly eating your storage.

📁 Large Files

A focused view of your biggest individual files, sorted largest-first, so you can reclaim the most space with the fewest deletions.

🔁 Duplicate Finder

Uses SHA-256 content hashing to find exact byte-for-byte duplicates — regardless of filename or location. Zero false positives. Results are grouped by duplicate set so you always keep one copy. Available in the free tier.

🗑️ Cleaner & App Uninstaller

The App Uninstaller removes an app and all its leftover files — support files, preferences, caches, and launch agents — that a simple drag-to-Trash leaves behind.

🛡️ Security Scan

After a storage scan, lists files under LaunchAgents and LaunchDaemons and labels them Unknown for you to review. It does not judge whether they are safe. Remove moves one file inside your home folder to the Trash.

♻️ Safe Area

TrimyMac's safety net. Cleaned files move to the Safe Area first — a recoverable holding folder — rather than being deleted outright. Restore anything, or empty it permanently when you are sure.

Shows everything that launches at login. Disable what you do not need to speed up boot and reduce background load.

5. Troubleshooting

The app says a scan found nothing / very little

This almost always means Full Disk Access is not granted. Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security → Full Disk Access, enable TrimyMac, and relaunch.

My license won't activate

Confirm you copied the entire key from your email. If you see "activation limit reached," deactivate an old Mac (Settings → License → Deactivate on this Mac). For anything else, email [email protected].

How do I update TrimyMac?

TrimyMac checks for updates automatically and shows a banner when a new version is available. You can also check manually in Settings → Check for Updates, or Download TrimyMac free.
